How to Write a Hit Song with AI: A Mureka Moment

Entrepreneurs are an odd sort. Are we artists or operators?

We definitely have a vision of what we think is cool. But most of us figure out how to create something that people will buy.

When ChatGPT 3.5 launched in November 2023, my daughter and I launched PoemAI. I was astounded at how much better AI could write a poem than I could. Since then, we’ve seen countless improvements.

We’re witnessing one of the greatest technological shifts of our lifetime. A big fear is that AI will take away our creativity and that no one will be as creative as the AI. The jury is still out.

But what if the opposite happens? What if AI actually unleashes the creative potential of the human race?

I never could write well (thankfully I’ve had great editors, one of the reasons my award-winning book Start. Scale. Exit. Repeat. exists). But I’ve always had ideas and vision for books, screenplays, and now, with the app Mureka, even hit songs.

I wrote a song for Entrepreneurs on Fire here. I wrote one for Startup Club here. I wrote one for our 29th wedding anniversary here, and I wrote one for my coach who runs a Fort Lauderdale Crossfit Gym called Riptide here.

I just can’t stop!

Enter the world of highly personalized music. Songs created for one or one million are now possible by anyone who chooses.

We’ve even added AI-generated videos to create a really fun experience. At first, I thought the songs would be hokey… but after listening to them, I’m getting hooked. No, I didn’t write the music. I didn’t even write all the lyrics, I wrote the initial lyrics, chose the emotion and music style, and presto, we had a great song.

To me, AI is like strapping on the Iron Man suit. With that, entrepreneurs and startups from anywhere can achieve anything. I truly believe it’s helping unleash human talent on a massive scale.

5 Tips to Creating a Hit Song with AI

  1. Know your audience.
If it’s for entrepreneurs, understand what motivates and inspires them. What moves them?
  1. Pick a music genre you like.
Do you love the ‘80s sound? Or maybe 2000s EDM? Choose something that resonates with you.
  1. Write lyrics that connect.
Start with a blank page – paper or digital. Don’t jump into AI just yet. You know your audience better than any model.
  1. Use AI as an editor.
Paste your draft into Claude or ChatGPT or just write it out in Mureka which has a pretty good editor. Let AI clean it up, then refine it yourself.
  1. Drop it into Mureka.
Run multiple versions until you’re happy. Mureka makes it easy to rerun variations though (frustratingly) it doesn’t let you edit an existing song… yet. They say that’s coming.

Bonus Tip:
When you’ve made a great song, you’ll know. I had one stuck in my head all night—and that’s when I realized AI-written songs could be as powerful as human-made ones. At least to the listener.

Now the key is promotion. Turn it into a video. Drop it on YouTube, TikTok, and all your channels.
